People enthusiastically participated in the functions as their long-standing demand had been met. Ramanagara has been carved out of Bangalore Rural district and will comprise Ramanagara, Magadi, Kanakapura and Channapatna taluks.
The 3,575.58 sqkm district has 827 villages and 10.5 lakh population.
Kolar district has been split to form the Chikkaballapura district, which has Chikkaballapura, Shidlaghatta, Chintamani, Bagepalli, Gudibande and Gowribidanur taluks. The district, which measures 4,100 sq km, has 912 villages and has a population of 11 lakh. Nearly ten years ago, seven districts - Bagalkot, Chamarajanagara, Davangere, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Udupi - were formed when late J H Patel was the chief minister.
Presiding over a function organised at Ramanagara to inaugurate the new district, Mr Kumaraswamy said he would strive hard to develop the newly-formed district as a model district in the whole country.
He said in the days to come he will concentrate on development of not only Ramanagara constituency, but also of Kanakapura, Magadi and Channapatna taluks.
At present, development works worth Rs 1,072 crore are going on in Ramanagara Assembly constituency. In the days to come more funds would naturally flow to the new district.
The CM indicated a nano technology institute would come up in Ramanagara.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said with its inauguration, the “shukradeshe” (good days) have started for the people there.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the development of agriculture and irrigation sectors besides empowerment of women, he said so far two lakh bonds have been given to beneficiaries under the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme.
Home Minister M P Prakash said, “Even though KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge has been in power for a long time, he has not been able to declare Yadgir as district headquarters. By forming new district, Patel and Kumaraswamy have created history.”
Doubts over BSY
In Kolar, Minister for Municipal Administration Alangur Srinivas expressed doubts over Mr Yediyurappa becoming the next chief minister.
He was speaking to reporters after overseeing preparations for the chief minister’s visit to the district.
“Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda decided who should become the next chief minister.”
FREE MAN
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday hinted he would abdicate the chair and be a free man after October 3. At a function organised in Ramanagara to launch the new district, he said due to heavy responsibility, he has not been able to pay attention to individual problems of his constituency people. “I seek your pardon for the lapse. But after October 3, I will be a free man and will devote my time for attending your problems.”
