Gonibeedu Coffee Growers Association has demanded that the State and Central governments should either waive off the loans of coffee growers of the taluk or give compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre, as their crops have been ruined because of heavy rains in the last month.
The association President C D Vinay Prasad and Secretary Roshan D’Souza, in a release, have stated that letters have been sent to the CM and the PM in this regard. They have urged the State to recommend the Union government to waive off the loans of coffee growers. They have also pressed that the fee to be paid for getting title deed should be reduced to Rs 5 for the coffee growers who are under debt. Rs 5,000 registration fee per Rs 1 lakh loan is being levied from the coffee growers in co-operative banks, which should be cancelled.
