Here’s someone who’ll give the Kylie Kwongs and Jamie Olivers of the world a run for their money! Introducing Remy, the cutest rat in the world who whips up a mean meal and really ought to teach Ash a trick or two about making spices seem intriguing.
Remy is the “black rat” of the family who catches cookery shows on the telly and dreams of creating delightful culinary treats for himself while the others are happy polishing off grub from garbage cans. When Late Gusteau, Paris’s greatest chef who stood for the idea that “Anyone can cook!”, not only knocks on the door of Remy’s imagination but also allows him hands on experience in his restaurant, the “little chef” can’t ask for more.
Remy hides under Linguini’s hat guiding the lanky underdog of a guy into doling out the yummiest of dishes and shooting up the popularity chart with the guests at Gusteau’s. How long will it be before scheming Head Chef Skinner discovers Linguini’s furry secret!
While Brad Bird impressed us with The Incredibles earlier, Ratatouille (pronounced rat-a-too-ee) is the delectable fare he serves us this time. And how you will hork it down! Pixar’s animation team spent ample time observing haute cuisine in Thomas Keller’s restaurant (‘The French Laundry’), the product being food images that will make you crave for your next meal oh-so-deeply. You have some incredibly real-looking images... be it of grapes that you almost make a grab for or a drenched Linguini who makes you shiver a little. This mindblowing animation does not, in any way, mean a compromise on the plot which is as lofty and original as can be.
The last few animation flicks we saw- Open Season, Over the Hedge, Happy Feet and Surf’s Up- never quite did the trick, and only make Ratatouille more welcome. This film is sure to inspire non-cooking folks into making brave attempts in the kitchen. And the words of wisdom that come from a food critic in this one might just knock wind out of a certain “Sattar minute” speech that may have fallen on your ears recently!
