A parliamentary panel finding raised serious question marks over the claim of the government about the autonomy of the Prasar Bharati.
The panel has identified Section 32 of the Prasar Bharati Act as the main culprit.
The section vests a whole lot of powers with the government, from making rules with regard to service conditions, salary and allowances and taking decisions with regard to investment, preparation of annual report, said the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting.
It hoped that the proposed financial restructuring of Prasar Bharati and funding of public service broadcasting operations would create a favourable atmosphere for such a change of scenario.
