Talking to reporters after inaugurating the branch secretariat of the external affairs ministry here, Mr Mukherjee said he could not go into details as “Parliament is in session”. Asked what options the government had, Mr Mukherjee said “wait and see”.
He said the issue would be debated in Parliament soon and the date for discussion would be decided by the business advisory committee.
The minister said: “discussions are on with all political parties, including supporting parties and partners of the UPA.” Meanwhile, top Left leaders met in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the situation even as the Congress expressed hopes that the debate in Parliament would clear the doubts of the comrades.
Allow debate
“All we need to do is to allow a debate on the issue in Parliament and the concerns raised by the Left parties will be addressed,” Congress spokesperson Kapil Sibal said.
“All their questions will be clarified on the basis of the 123 Agreement. If we address this, the basis of the concerns will go,” he said.
