A large number of supporters gathered outside the jail to receive the former coal minister.
The Delhi high court on Thursday acquitted Soren and four others in the Shashinath Jha murder case of 1994 in which he was accused of plotting the murder of his former private secretary. Soren, who had been serving a life term since November 28 last year, was brought here from Tihar jail in January after a Jamtara court issued a production warrant asking him to appear before it in the Chirudih massacre case of 1975. He had subsequently received bail in the case.
Soren’s counsel B N Manjhi, meanwhile, moved a petition today in the Jamtara court pleading recall of the production warrant it served against Soren.
Jharkhand HRD minister Bandhu Tirkey, Health minister and Bhanu Pratap Sahi were among those who were present to receive Soren.
Soren got into a car and left as his followers burst crackers, smeared ‘gulal’ (colours) on each other and raised slogans.
Non-committal
Soren later said he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after August 27, but remained non-committal on whether he would insist on his inclusion in the UPA ministry at the Centre.
