The Department of horticulture and The Mysore Horticulture Society has awarded The Leela Palace Kempinski, The Best Ornamental Garden Award. This is for the Special Outstanding Ornamental Garden. The award has been given to them for 13 consecutive times in the last six years. Mahesh V, Manager Horticulture and Landscape received the award recently.
The horticultural staff of The Leela Palace cares for the interior and exterior landscapes of the Hotel, including the plant life under the vast 4.5 acres of landscape area.
We have 50 varieties of exotic rare palms, 30 varieties of exotic trees, 150 varieties of plants, ground cover, seasonal plants and three varieties of grass. Apart from this, our main attractions being Japanese garden, Ayurveda plants, lazy river, exotic water lilies, waterfalls, bridge and Yale’s, vermicompost and leaf mould manure for plants.
Independence Day brought good cheer to the Mysore Horticultural Society, for, they have been awarded the first prize for their ornamental gardens for Telecom Employee Housing Society Limited on Bellary Road.
Not far behind is the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) at Bidadi. They have bagged 13 awards in the Ornamental Section of the Garden contets conducted by the Mysore Horticulture Society, Lalbagh as a part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The gardens maintained by them have won seven first prizes for the big garden, four first prizes for the small garden and two second prizes for the big garden in the 'Best Ornamental Garden' category.
The exquisite gardens, spreading over 24 acres has been maintained by TKM for the past 10 years and has consistently won the Lalbagh show awards for the last four years.
The garden has a variety with Acylepha Duranta, Oleander, Verbina, Hamelia Patens, Golden Duranta, Royal Palms and flowering plants like Rose, Almanda Dwarf, Hibiscus, Godi Chowdi among many others.
This year's annual competitions for Ikebana, vegetable carving and bonsai categories received 833 registrations, while Corporate participation has increased greatly this year and the best garden category received 725 registrations.
Priya Mascarenhas' garden is known as the garden of Eden of the City. For 33 years the garden has won the outstanding garden award for ornamental garden section. For fifteen years she has received the Javaraya rolling shield for the best ornamental garden of the City. Priya has plants from all across the globe. Her garden is exotic with water fall, fountains, statues and pathways asthetics visible glaring in your face everywhere. Garden which is loved and nurtured with great care and love.
Priya applies management to her home and garden as well. You cannot find a dry leaf in this haven of plants. Hardwork discipline and extreme love for the plants and nature has got her good results.
