The Karnataka State Commission for Women has directed Vinoda English High School here to allow Sangeetha (11), a Class VI student, to get back to the school.
However, her parents, Kuttappa and Mamata, are apprehensive. “Sangeeta is reluctant to go back. She is in the middle of her academic year. Removing her at this juncture can affect her studies. We’re persuading her to attend classes,” they said.
Sangeetha said she is ready to go back, but is worried. “I am afraid the teachers might hold a grudge against me,” she said.
School managing trustee Srinivasa Murthy said, “We are ready to take Sangeeta back. This is the first time such an incident has happened in the 20 years of its existence. We don’t want her education to suffer. We have suspended all the teachers allegedly involved.”
Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi on Monday ordered the school authorities to take the girl back.
“The Commission has warned the management not to take back suspended teachers. If the school continues to harass the child, stringent action will follow,” she warned.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Channabasappa said an explanation has been sought from the school management. “We have given them seven days’ time to reply. The Block Education Officer visited the school and recorded principal’s statements,” he said. Meanwhile, the RMC Yard police arrested the six accused teachers on Monday and later released them on bail.
