The lives of those who depend on forest products will improve if forest products processing units are set up, said Deputy Conservator of Forest B P Ravi.
He was speaking at Vanamahotsava celebration organised by the Asagodu Gramaranya Samithi on Monday.
He said Lamp has already set up honey processing units. A proposal has been sent to the government for the setting up of processing units of ‘muruganahuli’ and ‘dhoopada kai.’
“Western Ghat is hotspot of biodiversity. Many people depend on forest products for their livelihood. All of us should unitedly protect forest. Greenery is essential for firewood, water and fodder for the animals,” he added.
Saplings were planted in the Asagodu Gram Panchayat office premises on the occasion.
