Sikhs on Monday held a demonstration here in protest against the new screening rules imposed by the United States at its international airports.
“According to the new US airport screening rules, even Sikhs will have to remove their turbans for checking,” said Manjit Singh Teetu who led the demonstration.
This law is against the principles of Sikhism, he added.
“We are not against removal of turbans. They can ask us to remove the turban, if something objectionable surface during X-ray examinations at airports,” Manjit Singh Teetu said.
But, making it mandatory for every Sikh to remove the religious headgear hurts sentiments, Manjit Singh Teetu added.
The agitators maintained that Sikhs have contributed immensely in the development of United States. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Ajeet Singh Pannu.
