An anonymous call that a bomb had been placed in a private school in the Capital on Monday sent police into a tizzy, but it later turned out to be a hoax.
Police swung into action and carried out extensive searches with sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads scanning the premises of ASN school in Mayur Vihar of east Delhi, a senior police official said.
The call was made just days after the twin blasts rocked Hyderabad killing 42 people. Police said a case has been registered and efforts were on to trace the caller.
Principal R Goel received a call around 11.30 am from an anonymous person that a bomb had been placed in the school and it would explode at 12 noon.
The students were immediately rushed out of the classrooms and police were informed.
This was the third time in the past four years that the school had received such a call.
“We thought some mock drill was on on how to respond during an earthquake.
Nobody knew what was going on. Suddenly police personnel, sniffer dogs and bomb squads arrived and we understood that there was something wrong,” Varun Satokar, a Class XI student, said.
