Local body polls: 'Youth Cong to get 50 pc seats'
Chikmagalur, DHNS:

All India Youth Congress Secretary Akhil Chadda has informed that over 50 per cent of the seats in Congress will be allotted for youth in the local body elections in the State.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Mr Chadda expressed confidently that the youth congress in the local body elections will defeat the communal forces.

He said that the nationwide ‘Youth Congress Membership Drive’ is being held after four years in the country. The state level drive will be inaugurated on September 6 in Bangalore, which will be attended by many Congress leaders.

The drive will be taken up at all the districts within September 10 to 20 at various block and ward level.

He said that block and ward presidents will personally go door to door, meet people, members of youth clubs and cultural associations that have majority of youth members and thus will increase the membership.

The persons who will be appointed as the heads of the Zonal, District and Block levels will supervise the drive and as the drive will be conducted along with the local elections, there are all possibilities of attracting more youth towards Congress, he said and added that as soon as the elections get over, Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the state.

“The youth are attracted towards communal forces and a huge chunk of them joining hands with Naxal. Youth congress will fight against such negative changes,” he said.
