“The vegetables grown in the Kitchen garden are highly nutritious. Hence reduce consuming the vegetables grown using fertilisers,” said Taluk Krishik Samaj President O L Sunder.
Addressing the ‘World Kitchen Garden Day’ on Monday he said that earlier Kitchen gardens were the main source of vegetables for most of the people.
But after the advent of fertilisers, kitchen gardens shrunk and are today found symbollically. Since Kitchen gardens are not toxic and are healthy, Government must think of adopting kitchen gardens in all schools to provide nutiritious vegetables for mid-day meal programme.
Department of Agriculture director Krishne Gowda said that kitchen garden can be a good liesure time activity for the people. He urged everyone to resolve that they would nto use chemical fertilisers to gorw vegetables. The programme was collaboratively organised by Bhoomi Susthithi Samsthe and Phalguni Hemevathi Savayava Krishi Sangha at Phalguni near Moodigere.
