Country’s Economy Quite Sound
New Delhi, Aug 29.
In its review of the economic situation in the country with particular reference to the foreign exchange difficulties the Congress Working Committee is understood to have expressed the general opinion that increase in food production should be given top priority.
Mr Nehru, Pandit Pant, Mr T Krishnamachari and Mr Ajit Prasad Jain, who participated in the five-hour discussion of the Committee are reported to have said that country’s economic position was quite sound.
India Will Make Jet Engines In 2 Years
New Delhi, Aug 29.
India would be manufacturing jet engines for aircraft within two years, Defence Minister Krishna Menon told the Rajya Sabha today. Mr Krishna Menon was intervening in the debate on the Appropriate Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

India, Japan For New Era Of Ties
New Delhi, Aug 28.
The visiting Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Yoshio Sakurauchi, observed here tonight that India and Japan were about to enter a new era of closer bilateral relations within a broader framework of “increased inter-dependence among nations.”
Speaking at a dinner hosted in his honour by External Affairs Minister PV Narasimha Rao, he said that both India and Japan were fully aware of the fact their “mutual task” was not only to strengthen their bilateral relations but also promote peace and prosperity in Asia.
