The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has suspended one of its officers, Special Crime Branch (SCB) superintendent A K Sahay, on charges of demanding bribes and threatening people with dire consequences if they didn’t pay up.
The officer was probing the rape and murder of a Singur girl Tapasi Malik, who was killed in December last year during the movement against land acquisition for the Tata Motors project in Singur.
Media reports here said that Mr Sahay, who was posted in Kolkata, was suspended from his position just four days before his retirement.
Case filed in Delhi too
A case has also been filed by CBI Delhi against Mr Sahay at the Alipur special court-1 of Justice Indrajit Chattopadhyay here.
The CBI’s investigating officers would submit their report to the court.
An eleven member team of CBI’s vigilance wing conducted a thorough raid for about 15 hours on August 23, at the Beliaghata flat of Mr Sahay, who was overseeing the probe into the rape and murder of Tapasi Malik.
The CBI team conducted raids at 11 locations in Kolkata and Dhanbad, including the office and residential premises of Mr Sahay.
The charge against the official was that his aides “extorted money” from the accused or suspects in cases that his department was handling.
CBI Delhi started the probe against Mr Sahay a couple of months ago. The case was registered against him on August 21.
