Take stern action against encroachers
Sir, The state department of Education has requested the Chief Minister to take stern action against misuse of playgrounds for commercial activities. It is a very welcome move.
It is high time that government brings out a legislation to curb misuse of not only playgrounds, but also all other government lands. If a particular department has given its piece of land to set up shop or eateries, it necessary to call for tenders and take prior permission of the government.
However, in most cases, the lands are given for commercial activities at the instance of politicians and influential persons and for various other extraneous reasons.
I hope that the CM will take up stern action against encroaches and restore the Government properties to the original condition. Harikrishna S Holla

The battle royal
Sir, It is interesting to note that Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the scion of Mysore royal family, wants to contest for the post of president of Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Though the cricket fans may prefer G R Vishwanath as the right candidate for the post considering his cricketing credentials, Mr Wadiyar has every right to challenge Vishwanath based on his claims of administrative abilities.

Bihar barbarism
Sir, We were shocked to see Tuesday’s incident, wherein an alleged chain snatcher was beaten up by the public and police, and then dragged along the streets by tying him behind the motorcycle. The funniest part is the denial by the Police that the victim was actually not dragged, but he slipped and fell down. Whatever the offence it may be, beating a victim in full public brutally is condemnable. The erring policemen should be punished severely and stringent action should be taken against them. People who swindle crores of rupees are let loose, but poor chain snatchers and pick pocketers are beaten black and blue. Suthan K P

Deal with iron hand
Sir, No words are adequate to condemn the barbaric and savage acts of terrorists in Hyderabad City recently. Whilst mere condemnation serves very little purpose, the UPA Government at the centre and the state government in Andhra Pradesh should focuss more on curbing terrorism and terrorists. Indeed, the soft attitude of the authorities coupled with laxity on security front has turned the city into an haven for the terrorists and their sympathisers. Let us hope that the government would wake up and deal with the terrorists and their sympathisers with an iron hand. J N Mahanty

Immature politicos
Sir, While condemning in strong words the recent dastardly bomb attack on innocent civilians in Hyderabad, I am surprised and deeply ashamed at the reaction of the Opposition parties. What is the purpose of calling a bundh in protest against the attack? It will only cause immense hardship to the people which is exactly what the perpetrators of the attack want. Instead of joining the government in coming to the help of the injured victims, calls of resignation only reveal the immaturity of political parties. M V Pattabhiraman

Homegrown terrorists
Sir, It is no longer the RDX smuggled from Pakistan and bombs planted by Pakistanis that are causing mayhem in the country but indigenous explosives used by Indian nationals. In other words, foreign jihadis are being replaced by homegrown terrorists. The UPA Government is not realising that warped politics of appeasement recoils on both Hindus and Muslims. A VANI
