Malaya Becomes Sovereign State
Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 29.
Malaya became independent and the 10th member of the British Commonwealth at mid-night here tonight, amid scenes of wild rejoicing and shouts of “Merdeka” (freedom) from a crowd of nearly 50,000 people on Kuala Lumpur’s Town Square. The Duke of Gloucester handed to Tengku (Prince) Abdul Rahman, Malaya’s first Prime Minister, an instrument of transfer of power from Queen Elizabeth granting complete sovereignty.
N S Krishnan Dead
Madras, Aug. 29.
Mr N S Krishnan, 49, noted Tamil cine comedian, died here today after a brief illness. Mr Krishnan was admitted in the hospital on August 12 for treatment of jaundice.
His condition became critical since last night when he entered a coma at did not recover conciousness till he died by 12 noon. Mr Krishna hails from Nagercoil.
He leaves behind his actress wife T A Mathuram.

Chinese troops Move Into Gilgit

Srinagar, Aug. 29.
China has moved her troops and armour into Misgar in the erstwhile principality of Hunza in the Gilgit Agency in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir also known as Azad Kashmir, according to intelligence reports available here.
