The Rotary Club of Bangalore has one more cause added to their list - diabetes. The Rotarians are going to start a capaign to spread awareness about the disease. Says Purnimaa Ranganath, director, youth services, “People are not as aware about this disease as they should be. It is widespread and so many youngsters suffer from it. We are concentrating on juvenile diabetes. We are going to run awareness drives and medical camps in schools and colleges.”
To run these year-long activities, they are organising a fund raiser in the form of a supper theatre event - ‘Break a leg’ a comedy play written by Ira Levin. The play is directed by Prakash Belwadi. The evening will start with the play and then go on to cocktails and dinner.
“We decided on this because we need kids to know about this disease because even though diabetes may be hereditary, some like diabetes Type 2, are caused by obesity. The lifestyle of the present generation is dangerously inclined towards such diseases. So we need to inform them that they need to change the way they live”, adds Purnimaa.
The play is on at the Grand Ball Room, Chancery Pavillion on September 1, Saturday at 7 pm. Donor passes priced at Rs 1,000 are available. For passes contact Purnimaa at 9845045208.
