Air India is making arrangements for the transportation of 1.1 lakh Haj pilgrims under the Government quota besides operating additional scheduled services, civil aviation Minister Praful Patel informed the Parliament on Thursday.
The Haj Committee has received 1.9 lakh applications through the State Haj Committees against the Government quota of 1.1 lakh.
Private operators
Apart from this, 47,000 pilgrims would be going for the Haj-2007, through private tour operators.
A maximum number of 6307 pilgrims, from Karnataka will be making their way to Haj this year.
The number of pilgrims airlifted by Air India, Indian Airlines and Saudi Airlines during the last three years were 81,022 in 2005, just over a lakh in 2006-I and 1.08 lakh in 2006-II.
The Government provides subsidy in airfare, makes arrangements for the transportation of the Haj pilgrims going through the Haj Committee of India [HCI] and facilitates provision of accommodation and other logistic support for them.
Information
In addition of this, the Haj Committee of India provides to the pilgrims information regarding confirmation of their seats, travel documents, and transportation. The needful information with regard to accommodation, medical assistance, and release of foreign exchange is also intimated. Information pertaining to embarkation points and departure dates is also given to them.
Air India allows baggage allowance of 45 kg per pilgrim, 10 litre of Zam Zam water free of cost and excess baggage at a subsidised rate.
