The protest of agro-traders against the recent amendment to the APMC Act continued for the second day on Thursday. APMC markets in Yeshwanthpura and Singeri Agrahara remained closed. Retail sellers of vegetables and fruits have also extended support to the protest.
The agro-traders took out a protest rally from Yeshwanthpur APMC yard to Yeshwanthpura police station.
Hundreds of traders took part in the rally and shouted slogans against the State government for passing amendment to the APMC Act.
From Thursday midnight, the arrival of vegetables and fruits from different places has been stopped. Traders in Kalasipalya market, vegetable markets in T Dasarahalli, Kamakshipalya, Bagalagunte, Banavara and other places in Bangalore City have also decided to stop business in support of the bundh.
Bangalore Agro Traders Action Committee vice president Ramesh Chandra Lahoti said that the bundh will continue until the State government comes out with a clear assurance of withdrawing the amendment to the APMC Act.
“On previous two occasions, we withdrew the protest call as the minister for agriculture marketing promised that he would hold a meeting with us. But on both the occasions he did not fulfil his promise. This time we are not going to listen to similar assurances”, he said.
