The Central government has brought into force Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act 2005 on the lines of the rights ensured for women in the Constitution with the aim to ensure effective protection for women from domestic violence.
As per Section 8 under the Act, special protection officers have been appointed by the State government to provide legal protection to women facing atrocities within the family.
Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department will be the special protection officer at the district-level. Child Development Project officer of each taluk will be the protection officer for the respective taluks.
If any woman undergoing suffering in the family approaches the officer, she will be provided legal protection, medical help, financial help, temporary shelter and other necessary help, informed a notice issued by the deputy director of Women and Child Development Department.
