Allaranda Rangachavadi will organise a discussion on the proposed amendment to APMC Act at Bala Bhavan in the City on August 9, informed the Chavadi convener A Vittal Nanjappa and director K R Vidyadhar.
Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday, they said the discussions was being held on the very day when Quit India movement was launched against the British.
All small and large scale farmers, labourers, merchants and vendors should take part in this programme, they appealed.
The Union government has proposed amendments for the APMC Act 2003 in order to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in agriculture and subsidiary fields in the country.
The Act will lead towards private markets and contract system in agriculture, causing ill-effect on APMCs, they observed.
The traditional farming system will be adversely affected, while only commercial crops will get support. More use of chemical fertilisers will definitely affect our environment, while enhanced use of technology will result in more unemployment, they said.
About 16 states have already opposed the amendments, while some have sought for further alterations in the proposed amendments. The government should immediately withdraw the amendment Bill, they urged.
