Sudhan ‘tricks in APS victory
SS Sudhan took three for 16 including a hat-trick as Army Public School defeated Delhi Public School (South) by three wickets in a first phase match of the Boost Cup inter-school (U-17) cricket tournament.
DPS were restricted to 80 for nine from their 15 overs, and though they made heavy weather of it, Army Public School reached their target off the last ball as they scored 81 for seven.

Kuttappa stars in Germanite win
Kuttappa scored four goals (5th, 47th, 52nd and 54th minutes), including a hat-trick, to guide Germanite Hockey Club to a comprehensive 7-2 win over YSHC, Raichur in a ‘C’ division hockey league at the KSHA stadium on Thursday.
After Vivian opened the account in the fourth minute, Kuttappa increased the lead next minute. Yogesh struck one in the eighth minute while Kevin made it 4-0 in the 32nd minute before Kuttappa struck three more.
In another match, Bagalkot HC downed Leo Hockey Club 5-3. Santhosh (19th , 53rd), Amrish Chabri (10th), Muthu Mandagi (14th) and Basavaraj (42nd) scored for the winners. Sandeep (17th), Sujith Alwyn (41st) and Prasanna (59th) reduced the margin for Leo.
Anup, Ruth given top billing
MD Anup Kiran and Ruth Misha have been given top billing in the men’s and women’s singles events respectively in the Vijayanagara Club senior State-ranking badminton tournament to be held at the club premises and the Karnataka Badminton Association hall from August 3 to 5.
Anup and Ruth are the top seeds in the boys’ and girls’ sections of the under-19 event too.
The other top names in men’s singles include second-seeded Jagadish Yadav and third-seeded Darshan Kulkarni.
In the women’s singles, the notable names include Monisha Vinayak (second seed), Ashwini Ponnappa (third seed) and Saumya Padhye (fourth seed).
Doubles events will be conducted in the men’s, women’s and under-19 categories as well. In addition, mixed doubles, veterans singles and doubles events will also be conducted. The total number of entries is 248 and the total number of matches played will be 237.
Amit moves into semifinals
Amit Bhushan defeated Ajay Bhushan 3-2 to enter the semifinal of the 35th B S Sampath Memorial handicap snooker tournament at the KSBA hall on Thursday.
In the quarterfinals, Amit (+42 handicap) bt Ajay (+7) 74-84, 80-52, 76-21, 58-95, 65-57.

St Joseph’s Indian High School defeated Carmel High School by 101 runs in the semifinals of the under-14 category of the Arokiaswamy memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the St Joseph’s New Fields on Thursday.

Philomena’s enter title clash
Sports School, Kudige, and Philomena’s School, Bellary, reached the final of the KSWHA inter-school hockey tournament for girls.
In the semifinals on Thursday, Sports School scored a 4-1 win over Bishop Cotton ‘A’. Muthamma (3rd), Vidya V M (9th), Bavya (10th) and Bavani (25th) scored for the winners, while Disha Sharma (22th) struck for Bishop Cottons.
Later, Philomena’s beat Euphrasia’s ‘A’, thanks to VIjayalakshmi’s goal (12th).
Inter-collegiate sports meet
Christ College’s annual inter-collegiate sports festival will be held from August 24 at the Christ College grounds. Competitions will be held in football, basketball, volleyball (all men and women), hockey (men) and throwball (women).
