Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahuliwalia are expected to attend.
Officials of various departments will make presentations on the progress made by their departments.
According to sources, the meeting, which will focus on the “agriculture scenario in Karnataka”, the State will draw the PM’s attention to the “step-mothely” treatment shown to the State (as described by Water Resources Minister K S Eshwarappa on the floor of the Assembly).
While Andhra Pradesh has got Rs 400 crore for its irrigation projects under the package, even as the issue of utilisation of Krishna waters under B scheme is before the Commission, the State has not received a single paisa so far.
Of the Rs 2,689 crore sanctioned for six districts in the State under the PM’s package, irrigation sector accounts for a lion’s share of Rs 1,666.81 crore- Rs 1208 crore for major and medium irrigation and Rs 458 crore for minor irrigation.
Irrigation projects
Of this, Rs 941.57 crore is loan and Rs 725.24 crore is susidy. The State has proposed 17 irrigation projects under the scheme, of which majority are in the Cauvery basin area.
Mr Eshwarappa has said that the State would raise the issue before the Prime Minister and seek his intervetion in getting funds.
The six districts for which the package has been announced are Belgaum, Shimoga, Hassan, Kodagu, Chitradurga and Shimoga. Surprisingly Bidar district, wherein more than 40 farmers have committed suicide during the last two years, has been left out of the package. The State government is likely to suggest to the Centre to include Bidar district also in the package.
