Addressing a press meet after the meeting, BU vice-chancellor Prof H A Ranganath said that the syndicate resolved to provide all possible infrastructure and introduce new courses at Kolar PG centre so as to groom it as a full-fledged university.
Land allotted
Disclosing that government had already allotted land to the PG centre, the VC said that the University had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for construction of the campus out of which Rs 5 crore would be released in the first instalment. In addition, government has also extended financial support of Rs 4 crore for the work. Contractors have also been instructed to complete the work within 18 months. “Full-fledged university will start functioning by January 2010 if all goes in accordance with the schedule”, he hoped.
The VC said that it had been planned to introduce new courses, most of them job-oriented, at the PG centre by the coming academic year. The courses would cover as diverse subjects as food processing technology and agriculture market apart from Masters in Social Work (MSW). He opined that such courses would help a wide category of students to chart out their career. It had also been resolved to extend the training facilities being provided at Jnana Bharathi (Bangalore campus) to the PG centre also, he added.
Error in markscard
The syndicate resolved to rectify the mistakes in markscards of students of city’s Government College for Girls and to issue new markcards by incorporating the marks secured in practical exams. Director of Collegiate Education was instructed to initiate disciplinary action against the principal found responsible for errors in the markscard.
Barred from exam work
Taking strict view of ‘callous evaluation’ of BCA papers by a lecturer of Oxford College, Bangalore, the syndicate resolved to bar the lecturer from exam related work during the entire span of service.
Assistant registrar
The VC revealed that the syndicate decided to post an officer of the cadre of assistant registrar for the service of principals of colleges in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts as well as to ensure student welfare.
Out of the 52 subjects on the agenda of the meeting 35 were left out and decisions taken on the rest 17, he informed.
Four varsities sought:
Member of Legislative Council Y A Narayanaswamy who was also present in the press meet said that as many as 790 colleges come under the purview of Bangalore University and he had sought to split the University into four, at the Legislative Council session. It had also been sought to set up a university comprising Kolar and Chikkaballpur districts under the name “Antara Gangotri”.
Registrar Dr Radhakrishna, Director of Collegiate Education Kodandaramaiah, syndicate members Ranganath, Madaiah, Venugopal were present.
