Cathedral score over Aurobindo
Cathedral High School defeated Aurobindo High School 34-27 in the S V Appaiah memorial inter-high school basketball tournament in Bangalore on Friday.
Anmol top-scored for Cathdral with 12 points while Vinay netted eight points for Aurobindo.
Results:
Boys: BES HS 26 (Banu 13) bt SVEC 11 (Pranav 8); BGS International School 30 (Daman 10) bt Sindhi H S 20 (Roshan 9); Cathedral HS 34 (Anmol 12) bt Aurobindo H S 27 (Vinay 8); CMR NPS 21 (Rahul 10) bt United Mission 14 (Shyam 7).
Girls: Sports School 34 (Namratha 13) bt JIRS 8 (Ankita 3); Aurobindo H S 22 (Samyuktha 8) bt RVGHS 8 (Pooja 3).
BDFA member Revanna no more
S Revanna, a member of the Bangalore District Football Association’s managing committee, died in Banalore on Thursday night. He was 58 and is survived by wife and three sons.
Revanna, who was the president of the National Football Club, has been a BDFA member for the last six years.
The Super Division match between HASC and LRDE, scheduled for Friday, was postponed as a mark of respect to Revanna. The match will be played on Saturday.
SJIMS ‘B’ down Jain International
A tidy bowling performance led by Kaushal helped St Joseph’s Indian Middle School ‘B’ beat Jain International Residential School by three wickets in the Centenary Cup inter-school cricket tournament on Friday.
After sending JIRS to bat, SJIMS ‘B’ captain Pavan Kumar and Kevin D’Souza pushed their rivals on to the backfoot while taking two wickets apiece. Kaushal then joined the party and wrapped up the JIRS innings for 56 with three wickets in a miserly spell costing him just three runs in 2.4 overs.
In reply, SJIMS ‘B’ coasted to victory in 17 overs at the loss of seven wickets as Akarsh (13 n.o.) guided his team home after some initial hiccups.

Jain International Residential School: 56 all out in 19.4 overs ( Pavan Kumar 2-9, Kevin D’Souza 2-4, Kaushal 3-3) lt to St Joseph’s Indian Middle School ‘B’: 60/7 in 17 overs (Rakesh D 2-13).
Aditya, Bhushan in title clash
Aditya Navalkar defeated Sameer Sait  to set up a title clash Amit Bhushan in the 35th B S Sampath Kumar memorial handicap snooker tournament in Bangalore on Friday.
Bhushan beat Aashish Lunawat in the other semifinal.
Semifinals: Aditya Navalkar (+63) bt Sameer Sait (+56) 52-20, 36-69, 65-41, 67-44; Amit Bhushan (+42) bt Aashish Lunawat (+56) 80-33, 86-29, 65-68, 63-30. Third place for Bishop Cotton ‘A’
Bishop Cotton Girls High School ‘A’ edged out Euphrasias ‘A’ 3-2 in the loser’s final of the KSWHA BTC inter-school hockey tournament on Friday.
Disha Sharma opened the account for Cottonians in the very first minute while Neha NS and Niyama R sounded the board in the 17th and 31st minutes.
Euphrasias struck through Elizabeth Rani and Maria Goretti in the 38th and 39th minutes to reduce the margin. Sports School, Kudige, will meet Philomena’s, Belgaum, in the title clash on Saturday.
Car rally for blind on August 5
Kreatives and National Association for the Blind under the aegis of Karnataka Motor Sports Club will conduct the fifth Mphasis Car Rally for the Blind 2007 on August 5 at 9 am.
The event run on Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format will have a visually impaired navigator who will follow the route map (tulip chart) in braille.

Hockey Year Book released
The ‘Hockey Year Book 2007’ authored by K Arumugam, was released by former SAI executive director and Olympian M P Ganesh in a function on Friday.
The year book, published first in 1995, is devoted to domestic hockey besides details of matches played by India in international tournaments.
Current Indian players Prabodh Tirkey and Bharat Chikara, who were earlier selected as Player of the Year and Rising Star of the Year respectively, were to be honoured at the function but they couldn’t  turn up.
Entry deadline for KPMG race
Bangalore Sports Club, the organisers of the XII KPMG-Independence Day road race, have decided to accept spot entries for the event, which is to be held on August 5.
The cut-off time for entries now stand at 7.30 am on the race day. Events to be held, for both boys and girls, are: 1km (under-11); 2km (under-14) and 4km (under-16).
Top ten placers will get cash prizes, trophies and certificates of merit.
