Do not forget alma mater, students told
DH News Service, Mangalore:
Students should return what they have got from the society once they complete their studies and enter the professional life, said Nitte Education Trust Chairman N Vinay Hegde.

He was speaking after felicitating the top scorers of last SSLC and PUC examinations from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at Molahalli Shivarao Memorial Auditorium in Kodialbail on Saturday. South Canara District Central Co-operative (SCDCC) Bank had organised the programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Molahalli Shivarao.
Mr Vinay Hegde said the attitude of forgetting the alma mater was not a good gesture, and added that the students could be grateful to their original roots by returning the double of what they have obtained initially. He said the meritorious students who were felicitated in the programme would get 50 pc concession in their fees if they were intending to join the Nitte education institutions for their higher studies.
Mr Hegde lauded the efforts of SCDCC Bank towards the financial stability of common people through the Navodaya self helf groups (SHGs). He also stressed on the contributions of late Molahalli Shivarao in the beginning and evolution of co-operative movement in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.
About 50 students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, including Master Sunil Rao from Karkala who stood first in State in SSLC examinations in 2006-07 were felicitated. Meanwhile, 15 meritorious students belonging to the families of Navodaya SHG members were given scholarship from the SCDCC Bank.
One of the SHGs got a tailoring machine, while sports materials were  provided to a youth club.
