A head constable goes missing. Reason: He knew too much!
Shivananda, the head constable attached to J J Nagar police station, who was privy to information on his seniors’ alleged misdeeds, has gone missing.
His wife, holding a petition in her hand, was seeking an appointment with the top brass as the Police Commissioner's office.
Shivananda, who has put in nearly three decades of service, was fed up with happenings at J J Nagar police station, where Inspector Basavaraju was “reduced to a dummy”, while SI Lingaraju had “taken over the mantle.”
Of course, this could not have been impossible without blessings from his bosses. “The SI humiliates the staff and encourages illegal activity in the area. Our head constable tried to alert higher-ups and landed in trouble," said one of Shivananda’s colleagues.
One day, he decided to expose the goings-on in the police station - selling seized vehicles, supporting matka, etc. Immediately, action followed. First, in the form of transfer order followed by the suspension letter.
Sources told Deccan Herald around 22 two wheelers, two autorickshaws and other mechanical spares in the police station was sold as scrap without permission. As per rules, abandoned, stolen and seized vehicles should be brought to the notice of the court and the RTO. After obtaining a clearance, vehicles are auctioned. But J J Nagar police decided to “clean” their premises and make fast buck.
Besides, some stolen two-wheelers were being regularly used by the station staff. The joint commissioners and higher officials visiting the police stations warn them saying, “I don't want any illegal activity in your jurisdiction. If I come to know of such things, you will be held responsible.”
