Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Ministry Principal Secretary A G Kongavada has ordered for an immediate release of Rs 12 lakh from the Natural Calamity Relief Fund, only three hours after his visit to the rain havoc hit areas in Samse area near here.
Conducting a special meeting at Chikmagalur after visiting the areas, Mr Kongavada instructed the authorities to release Rs 10 lakh for the repair works of Kalasa - Kudremukh road and Rs 2 lakh for constructing a hang bridge at Nelyadka.
Though the Secretary had come for a family tour in Kalasa and Horanadu, he halted the journey at Kalasa on Saturday and visited the havoc hit areas following the pleas of the native people. The gracious gesture of the official has surprised the public.
Disrupts traffic
If the road between Kalasa and Kudremukh slides near Samse, the main connection of the taluk with Udupi and Dakshina Kannada falls down.
Meanwhile, as the narrow Nelyadka bridge was washed away in the flood, hundreds of students are being affected.
These particular points had been brought into the attention of Mr Kongavada. The sources said the Principal Secretary held a review of the condition of the areas with Headquarters Assistant Siddappa, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sundar Naik, Deputy Secretary Kantharaj, engineers of PWD department and Zilla Panchayat at Chikmagalur.
