The proscribed ULFA triggered two blasts in eastern Assam’s Sivasagar district on Sunday, injuring altogether 33 people.
The first blast took place in front of a police station at Sonari at around 8.15 am. Ten people were injured in the blast, which partially damaged an adjacent petrol pump.
The second blast took place just 10 minutes later in front of an inter-district bus terminus of the Assam State Transport Corporation in Sivasagar, the district’s main town, injuring seven more persons.
“The militants used Improvised Explosive Devices to trigger the blasts,” said Superintendent of Police, S Saikia. Security has been beefed up across the state to prevent more subversive bids by the ULFA ahead of the Independence Day.
