Himanshu move into semifinals

Powered by Yashas, Himanshu Jyothi Kala Peetha boys registered an easy 37-20 win over Sri Vidya Mandir and moved into the semifinals of the fifth Sri S V Appaiah Memorial inter-school basketball tournament at the BES courts here on Sunday.

Yashas, the Himanshu hoopster, was the star of the day, scoring a match-high 23 points, while Jagadek scored  12 points for Sri Vidya Mandir. The winners led 15-6 at half-time. Also advancing to the last four stage from the boys’ section were Christ High School, Kensri HS and Cathedral HS.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ section, Carmel Convent will meet Mary Immaculate in the final. In the semifinals on Sunday, Carmel overcame Poorna Prajna Education Centre 46-40 and Mary Immaculate beat Sports School by an identical margin.

Siri came up with 17 points for Carmel, while Ramya, who scored 15 points, reduced the margin for losers. In the second semifinal, Sindhu netted 16 points for Immaculate and Sushmita scored a consolation 16 points for Sports School.

Results: Boys, quarterfinals: Kensri High School: 28 (Ashwin 18) bt Sri Aurobindo High School: 18 (Pavan 8). HT: 17-14; Christ High School: 34 (Sunil12) bt St Joseph’s High School: 31 (Vipul 15). HT: 13-10; Himanshu Jyothi Kala Peetha: 37 (Yashas 23) bt Sri Vidya Mandir: 20 (Jagadek 12). HT: 15-6; Cathedral High School: 32 (Anmod 18) bt BGS International: 20 (Suhas 10). HT: 15-8.

Girls, semifinals: Carmel Convent: 46 (Siri 17) bt Poorna Prajna Education Centre: 40 (Ramya 15). HT: 24-20; Mary Immaculate: 46 (Sindhu 16) bt Sports School: 40 (Sushmita 16). HT: 25-24.
