FOETICIDE
Raising the issue of dumping of aborted foetuses in a garbage bin in Bangalore, during zero hour, Mr G V Sriramareddy (CPI-M) said that the incident reflected that the female foeticide was rampant in the State and had gone unchecked by the state machinery.

Issue raised Assembly
The dumping of aborted foetuses in a garbage bin in Bangalore figured in the Legislative Assembly on Monday with members demanding a probe into the incident, DHNS reports from Bangalore.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr G V Sriramareddy (CPI-M) said that the incident reflected that the female foeticide was rampant in the State and had gone unchecked by the state machinery.

He charged that there was a huge network behind the such illegal activities which was active across the State.
Ms Shankuntala Shetty and Sunitha Veerappagowda (both BJP) demanded that the government take steps to identify the hospital where the foeticide had taken place and initiate criminal proceedings against the medical officers.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said the police are yet to ascertain the exact source from where foetuses were brought in and assured that the government will submit a detailed reply to the House on Tuesday.

Prakash slams Nesargi
Home Minister M P Prakash criticised Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi for blaming the police for the issue of dumping aborted foetuses.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Monday, Mr Prakash said “For everything in the world one cannot blame the police. What role the police play in dumping aborted foetuses”. He also opined that the media has been sensationalising the issue.

Ministers on their toes
The furore over the discovery of three bags containing foetuses in a drainage at Jakkarayanakere on Sunday kept the ministers and various department officials on toes on Monday.

Minister for Women and Child Development H K Kumaraswamy visited Victoria Hospital with health officers. The foetuses look like they have been brought from a medical college, where students use them for study, as they have been kept in formalin solution, he said. “If it was foeticide, all seven would have been female,” he said.
Mr Kumaraswamy said only seven foetus were found and not 21, as cited by the media. He termed “untrue” reports that the foetuses were brought from Kundapur.

Police are investigating and culprits will be identified within a week, he said.

Health Minister R Ashok called a meeting at Vidhana Soudha to discuss the issue. It was attended by top officials from the police department, Women and Child Welfare Department, Victoria Hospital, BBMP, Medical Education Department and Pollution Control Board.
