Hundreds of enraged villagers from Gottikere, Mudugirayyana palya, Shambhugowdana Palya held a protest opposing the release of effluent into the lakes which caused the death of several cattle and wounded them. The cattle which drank water from the lake were found to be sick, they said.
They alleged that the industry has been releasing effluent into the lakes without decontaminating them. They also forced to purify the wastes and dump the wastes to far off places.
They also said that the skin of a goat was burnt after coming in contact with the water in the lake.
At one point, the situation worsened and the protesters went to the extent of even attacking when an employee of the industry started abusing the protesters. However with the entry of PSI Siddaraju and staff the situation came to a control.
The protest was temporarily withdrawn after ZP member K H Shivanna, held talks with the officials of the company.
The factory owner promised to provide compensation for the dead cattle and assured of not releasing effluent without purifying them.
However the villagers have warned of holding a huge protest if the same continues in future.
