Two MPs from Lok Sabha will be seen in action from next week not just inside the House chamber but also on LS TV, the dedicated channel of the Lower House.
Karnataka’s Tejaswini Sreeramesh and Maharatra’s Suresh Prabhu are the two MPs who will anchor the weekly programmes on the LS TV. While former Union minister Prabhu will anchor a half-an-hour programme titled Top Shot. Kanakapura MP Tejaswini will interview senior leaders who have won ‘Best Parliamentarians’ award during her one-hour bilingual programme called Torch Bearer.
Strengthening spirit
Later, more MPs from different regions of the country could be involved in conducting such programmes, which could strengthen the parliamentary spirit across the country, Lok Sabha sources said.
Prabhu, who as a minister in charge of power, environment and later as chairman of the task force on interlinking of rivers, will host the programme on developmental issues. Prabhu will interview experts who can be from the field of politics, business and even foreign delegates visiting India.
“I will be focussing on larger issues which are not normally covered by mainstream news channels,”the Shiv Sena MP told Deccan Herald from his constituency Rajapur. The four-time MP, however, admitted that he has no experience of anchoring any TV programme.
Tejaswini, however, has no such problems. Anchoring a popular interview-based programme Mukha-mukhi (face to face) in a Kannada TV channel, the giant-killer — she defeated former prime minister H D Deve Gowda — says she is happy to get back to her TV days. “ I will be hosting this one-hour programme wherein I will interview Best Parliamentarian awardees like former prime minister A B Vajpayee, Union ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Arjun Singh, Jaipal Reddy, Opposition leaders L K Advani and Jaswant Singh. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will be my first guest. It will be interesting as I will be interviewing political icons of the country,” she said.
According to the Congress MP, focus will be on the career and personality of the leaders. “I will interview them in both English and Hindi, at their residences because I feel they will be most comfortable there.
More over, TV studios at times can be boring. We can add visuals of their speeches in parliament, etc.”
Reliving past glory
The first-time Lok Sabha MP said she was excited as her talent as a TV host has been recognised. “I am from this field. I am happy to sort of getting back to it,” she said.
Meanwhile, LS TV, which completed one year on July 24, will celebrate it on August 20 with a special programme at Central Hall of Parliament which will be attended by top leaders.
The 24-hour channel, which mainly telecasts Parliament proceedings live, also beams a mix of panel discussions and educational and informative shows, speeches of historical importance in Parliament besides award winning feature films.
