The Supreme Court on Monday admitted the petition of underworld don Abu Salem challenging the charges framed against him for his alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts under the TADA(P) Act and seven other cases.
After hearing the arguments, a bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said the trial in the cases would go on but the final order would not be pronounced till the disposal of the cases.
Salem, who was extradited from Portugal on November 11, 2005, challenged the decision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Maharashtra Police to slap 8 other cases including the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Preventive) Act, Pradeep Jain murder and Shyam Diwan (actress Manisha Koirala’s private secretary) murder cases.
