Even as speculation was rife in Bangalore of intense political activity in Delhi concerning Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s camp denied any development on the ongoing political drama.
AICC leader Oscar Fernandes, on the other hand, said he was not interested in taking up any political responsibility in Karnataka. “There were no political meetings involving the chief minister, who spoke to Union ministers only on developmental issues. Otherwise, he stayed put in Karnataka Bhawan,” sources close to Kumaraswamy said.
The chief minister, accompanied by his brother and PWD Minister H D Revanna, called on Union ministers Shivraj Patil, P Chidambaram, Arjun Singh and Jaipal Reddy.
Mr Kumaraswamy, who spoke for a brief while to the electronic media, refused to respond to any question on State politics. Meanwhile, responding to queries in an informal chat, Congress leader and Union Labour Minister Fernandes dismissed media reports that he may be sent to Karnataka as chief minister in case the Congress joined hands with the Janata Dal (Secular). He said he was not interested in taking up any job in Karnataka.
Asked to comment on the possibility of a Congress-JD(S) tie up in the event of the BJP-JD(S) alliance breaking up, Fernandes refused to give a direct answer saying he was not involved in it and it was up to the AICC leadership to answer it.
He said he was in Bangalore last week and spoke to the Congress MLAs of Bangalore city. He indicated that problems relating to the revamp of DCCs of Karwar and Bangalore have been resolved and they may be announced soon.
