Jamaica’s cricket captain Wavell Hinds has been banned for the remaining calendar year by Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) after he was found guilty of verbally abusing umpires during a Super Cup match (June 23-24) at Kensington Park.
On-field umpires Errington Malcolm and Desmond Edwards subsequently filed an official complaint. On July 27, the Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Justice Howard Cooke and attorneys, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour Tony Irons, and the informal chaplin of the JCA, Rev Selvin Watson, found Hinds guilty of infringement, according to Jamaica’s ‘Sunday Observer’.
The 30-year-old has the right to an appeal which must be filed ‘within 14 days’, first vice-president of the JCA Paul Campbell said. However, the local governing body has yet to receive an appeal from the player, who has been captainig the side for the past three seasons.
JCA Secretary Milton He-nry did not confirm or deny Hinds’ ban, but conceded ‘there was a hearing’ involving the player.
