As the rain fury continued, one person belonging to Gonibeedu village in the taluk died on Tuesday as his house collapsed due to heavy rains that has been lashing the taluk for the past three days.
The deceased has been identified as Seetharam Achari (60), a goldsmith by profession. A case has been registered in Gonibeedu police station in this connection.
According to Mr Chandrashekhar of Zilla Panchayat Engineering Department, a loss of Rs 48 lakh has occurred in the taluk in the last three days, after a total of 11 projects were reported damaged. Goutuhalli bridge near Makonahalli, a foot bridge near Kottigehara, Kundoor-Tatkola road have been collapsed, he informed.
Paddy fields near Kottigehara, Banakal, Phalguni, Kittalegundi, Haluru, Bettadamane, Kesavalalu, Daradahalli have been submerged following the floods in Hemevathi river.
In Kalasa
Agriculture activities in villages and routine business in towns have gone down considerably due to incessant rains since Friday. The daily life has been disrupted. The bridge across Bhadra river on Kalasa-Horanadu road had been submerged for some time on Tuesday. As holidays were not declared for schools, students in rural areas found it difficult to reach the schools.
Kalasa town has received 125 cms rain till date. The total quantum of rain received in the previous year was 160 cms.
In Koppa
Most of the educational institutions remained closed on Tuesday. Traffic was very less as many of the roads and curves were damaged.
Paddy fields and areca plantations in hundreds of acres submerged due to the increased water level in Thunga river and its subsidiaries. Several areca trees have fallen. Paddy fields which had been ready for cultivation have been covered by mud and water, making the farmers helpless. Paddy fields have been washed away in water at Kesave, Hulumakki, Shanuvalli, Niluvagilu, Siddaramatta and other areas.
In Narasimharajapur
Paddy fields spread over 150 acres of land are under water as the flood situation in Thunga river has continued. Muttinakoppa Gram Panchayat former president Praphullachandra, member Vijaya visited the rain affected areas who said the region has incurred a loss of more than Rs 10 lakh.
