Ironically, a building donated to the government to start an orphanage was never started in this building, though the name of orphanage home has stuck to the building.

For the past two and a half decades, the ZP office was functioning here on rental basis.

Now the ZP office was shifted recently to newly constructed building near Onake Obavva Stadium.

Most hostels in the city are situated in the outskirts of the city. Students find it difficult to reach their schools and colleges from there.

Considering this problem, some Dalit organisations had staged a protest and demanded the district administration to use the “orphanage home” to start a hostel for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students.

Some other organisations are also insisting that the home house a hostel for poor girl students.

But, the local residents opine that the building should be used for a government office. As the Taluk Panchayat office is in the outskirts of the city, it could be shifted to the building to facilitate residents, they stated.
The home is maintained by a committee headed by the deputy commissioner. The ball is now in deputy commissioner’s court.
