The much-awaited election to Belgaum Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) turned out to be a one-sided affair with Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES)-supported candidates making it to the posts of President and Vice-President.
In a low-key election, the MES-supported candidate Mr Parashuram Bedka was elected President with a kitty of 10 votes leaving his rival Mr Parashuram Kurangi (former APMC president) behind with seven votes.
In the 17-member APMC, eight are MES-supported candidates. On Tuesday, two other members voted in favour of them.
The elections were conducted through ballots.
Mr Gopal Patil, another MES supported candidate was elected Vice President defeating Mahadev Khanganni. Mr Patil secured 11 votes as against six of his rival.
Delayed polls
Elections to APMC was supposed to be held two months ago. The process had to be put off abruptly following an assault on Returning Officer P Y Patgundi by some MES workers during the process of election.
