Sculptors abode cries for facilities!
DH News Service, Malur:

This is the place where lords and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon are made. The abstract gets into shape here.

But, Shivarapatna, which is famous for its sculptures the world over, is fast gaining notoriety for another reason: Lack of infrastructure.

This lack of basic facilities has ensured that the place remains a village.

Apart from the asphalted and cemented roads there is nothing much to speak of in this place, if you discount the numerous stone sculptures lying in front of the houses, in backyards in various stages of completion in the town.

Drainages
Stinking drainages are a common sight, but what takes the cake is the Higher Primary School that was started in 1936.

The old building with a Ganapati idol in front of it and a recently built Goddess Sharada archway takes one to the abode of wisdom. However, reality is different.

PU college
The Pre University Course, that was started in 1993 had to be discontinued due to student shortage in just four years!!

All that remains of it is a faded board, hung on the half-collapsed wall of the college.

Funds
But, local legislator S N Krishnaiah Shetty has promised funds of about Rs one crore towards the allround development of the entire village.  Remains to be seen whether the words will be realised or not.
