The water level at the Pargodu Chitravathi dam which caters drinking water to Bagepalli and Gudibande has completely gone down. If the uncertainty of rain continues then there will be severe shortage of drinking water which has started worrying the citizens here.
The water that is remaining in the dam is very muddy. This itself is being filtered and the municipality is supplying it once a week to the town. But now even this water is contaminated. Since the fishing is also going on the water has become still more dirty.
While the dam was being built the debris that was left behind has added to the contamination.Though it has rained in quite a few areas in the taluk, it has not rained to the extent of filling up the lakes and tanks.
The lakes in Gulur hobli have got water. But the other lakes have remained dry and Chitravathi dam is no exception. It has not rained much in Nandi hils and Chikkaballapur which is hte source for the lakes here. Only when it rains will the Chitravathi river be full. Now that the remaining water has been used, administration and the people are in a quandary about what to do next.
