Delay springs pleasant surprise on them
Bangalore, DHNS:

Gratitude, elation, delight... These were the words the national award winners used to describe their feelings upon learning the good news.

Actor Sundar Raj, who along with wife Pramila Joshai produced Thayi, the Kannada adaptation of Maxim Gorky’s Mother was quietly elated. Words tumbled one after the other as he revealed how the couple had approached poet Dr Baraguru Ramachandrappa to direct the film. “ Meshtru (Dr Ramachandrappa) is a simple man. He is one of the few people who practise what they preach. We wanted him to direct a film for us. The only fear was whether he would agree to direct or not. It was his choice ultimately.” “ We had not expected an award to the film. Now, the entire industry is rejoicing for us and we dedicate this award to the Kannada industry,” Sundar Raj managed to say amidst the continuous stream of congratulatory phone calls and messages.

Actress Pramila Joshai was happy that their maiden attempt had succeeded beyond expectations. “ This award means more than due recognition of our efforts. It is like a pat on our back. This award means encouragement to make more meaningful, quality films.”

“Winning this award has also increased our responsibility. We have to be extra careful in making good films now.” So what are her future plans? “Right now, I plan to concentrate on our daughter who is in II PUC. We hope to produce a few movies under the same banner next year. As of now, we are on the look out for some good stories,” the actress signed off. For the director-producer duo of Thutturi, P Sheshadri and Jayamala Ramachandra, it was a case of double delight. Said Sheshadri, “I am delighted with the news as the jury recognised the film as not only a children’s film but as a film that had a message which is universally relevant. Winning the Earth Vision jury appreciation award at the 15th Tokyo Environmental Film Festival and now winning this award affirms my belief that the problem of environmental degradation is universally recognised.”

Added Jayamala: “Frankly, I had all but forgotten about the film as it took this long for the awards to be announced. After my doctorate, I feel this is a bonus. I feel that there is a revival of children’s film movement, which augurs well for the industry.”
