Allergan’s R&D facility in City

Allergan Inc on Wednesday announced the opening of the Allergan Pharmaceutical Development Centre India Pvt Ltd in Bangalore. Part of Allergan’s worldwide R&D operations, this centre will focus on implementing global pharmaceutical research and development projects that Allergan conducts in India. Allergan India will continue to manage the commercial side of Allergan’s business here.

Sun enters com silicon market

Sun Microsystems, on Wednesday, announced the introduction of the world’s fastest commodity microprocessor, the UltraSPARC(R) T2. The new processor is the industry’s first volume processor with eight cores and eight threads per core, the company said in New Delhi.

Formerly known as the “Niagara 2” project, the UltraSPARC T2’s performance raises the bar on commodity processors while boasting the industry’s highest energy efficiency per thread. With each thread capable of running its own operating system, the chip delivers a whopping 64-way system on a single chip. 

Kotak Bank ties up with Tata AIG

Kotak Mahindra Bank on Wednesday announced to sell personal accidental insurance cover to all its account holders in tie up with Tata AIG General Insurance Company Ltd. This product covers accidental death and permanent total disablement (PTD) due to an accident. The insurance policy is offered to customers at a premium of just Rs 10 per month for the first two months as a special product offer from TATA AIG only for KMBL account holders.

Apollo’s JV in health insurance

The Apollo Hospitals Group in a joint venture with Deutsche Krankenversicherung AG (DKV AG), Europe’s largest private health insurer,  announced on Wednesday the formal launch of its health insurance company Apollo DKV Insurance Company Limited ( Apollo DKV). The new company with its unique brand positioning of “Let’s Stay Healthy” will offer customers uninterrupted health at all times by adopting a preventive approach to facilitate better health for all.

ING Vysya’s new product

ING Vysya Life Insurance on Wednesday announced the launch of ‘ING Positive Life’, a unit linked saving solution targeted at the regular saving segment. The new product allows a customer to manage his or her investments and also serves as a systematic investment plan. The company plans to augment the current number of 277 branches to 330 by December.

Exide ties up with UK firm

Exide Industries Limited announced on Wednesday that it has entered into an agreement to jointly develop bi-polar technology with Atraverda Ltd., UK, a research organisation, which has patented Ebonex  technology. If successful, this would make lead acid batteries smaller, lighter and more environmentally friendly. This will enable Exide to develop bi-polar lead acid batteries  for power storage.
