Tension prevailed at Chota Maidan in Shivajinagar on Wednesday as a group of 200 youths tried to gherao BBMP officials raising objection to construction of a football stadium in the area.
Police intervened and brought the situation under control. BBMP has embarked on the construction of a football stadium at the maidan at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
The work is scheduled to begin shortly.
On Tuesday, 200 local youths tried to gherao BBMP officials who were discussing the project at the maidan.
They objected to the construction and demanded that no gate be installed at the maidan entrance. Officials said the project was in final stages and they could not make any changes.
An argument broke out between them over the issue. Soon, police rushed to the spot and pacified the youths.
