Woman who duped banks sent to jail
The woman accused of cheating banks to the tune of Rs lakh was on Wednesday sent to the Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara.
The Central Division police will constitute a special team to trace Suresh, another accused who helped Hemalatha (27) in preparing fake documents.
Police have decided to inquire with the bank officials on how they sanctioned loans without proper scrutiny.
They directed banks to freeze all the fake accounts held by Hemalatha.
They will also question, Deepak, a close friend of Hemalatha, besides Hemalatha’s younger brother, who is said to be a drug addict. Hemalatha’s telephone calls will also be traced.
Hemalatha is said to have paid some persons money to the tune of lakhs.
These ‘beneficiaries’ too will be grilled.
Hemalatha, who runs a paying guest accommodation at BTM Layout, had allegedly prepared fake documents and availed of bank loans to the tune of Rs 64 lakh.
7 arrested for prostitution
Cubbon Park police on Tuesday arrested seven persons on charges of prostitution and recovered a car and five mobile phones, all worth Rs 3.75 lakh.
The seven are: Anil Srinivasa (27), a resident of Bharatinagar, Guruprasad Muthappa (27), of Madikeri, Sachindas Amaldas (28), Riya Deepak (22), Parvin Hanees (20), Deepali Biddut Ray (28) and Reeta Rajay (20), all from Kolkata.
Police arrested them when they were trying to attract customers on M G Road.
The women were dancers at a bar at Majestic. After the bar was closed down, they took to prostitution, police said. They operated in areas like M G Road, Brigade Road and Commercial Street and targeted the rich.
All of them have houses at Yelahanka. They told police they were jobless and were forced to indulge in this trade.
Seven held for theft
Organised Crime Wing of CCB arrested seven persons on theft charges and recovered 248 wheat packets worth Rs 2 lakh on Tuesday.
The seven are: Shivanna (60), a resident of Malleswaram, Nagendra Shetty (54), of Mahadevapura, Iranna (39), Nagesh (27), Shivaputra (30), all from Whitefield, Kumaravelu (28), of Vijinapura, Balaraju (35), of Channasandra main road and Ramu (20), of Mahadevapura.
Woman robbed
They would steal wheat packets sent to the Food Corporation of India by train. They would repack the wheat and sell it in different areas.
A woman was robbed by two men on a motorbike in Vijaynagar police station limits. Yeshaswini, an employee of a private firm, was returning home when they accosted her and snatched her bag containing Rs 5,000 and her cellphone at Saraswathinagar and sped away.
‘ACCUSED NOT OUR STAFFER’
Responding to Wednesday’s news that one Saurav Bose, an “instructor” at the Alliance Francaise had allegedly raped his colleague, the Director of the Alliance Française, currently in France, said that “Saurav is not, and has never been an employee nor a teacher at the Alliance Française de Bangalore, nor is he a tutor of the French Embassy of India.” He communicated his sympathy to the victim - the cultural coordinator at Alliance and to her family.
