“To know the culture of Kannadigas, we need to learn other regional dialects,” said Folklorist Dr Vaman Nandavar.
Speaking after inaugurating Tulu classes for non Tulu speaking population organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy here on Wednesday, he said that the Tulunadu has a special tradition, which all of us should know. There is a need to learn the language.
He said “if those who learn Tulu do not understand our culture and tradition, then they can not learn Tulu language properly.”
He said languages should be taught in a scientific manner i.e by listening, talking, reading and then writing. He urged the people not to forget mother tongue.
Former MLA Kumble Sundar Rao said Tulu is essential for day today affairs in Dakshina Kannada district.
It is essential that every officer to know the language to commmunicate with the localites.
“Tulu kend patherd odid kalbule” by K T Gatti and “Karmbuda per” by Dr Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj were released on the occasion.
Dr Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj said that apart from writers like Amrith Someshwar, Dr Puninchinthaya and Vaman Nandavar, not many poets have written poems which will suit light music. “Karmbuda per” has devotional songs, translations of Dasa padagalu and Bhavageetha.
