Looks like men’s fashion is receiving some attention by our Indian couturiers now. The new Indian male is fashion-conscious and designers are taking notice. Recently ace designer Vikram Phadnis showcased a complete men’s line in Bangalore. Titled Royal Mist DemiGods 2007, the luxury collection was symbolic of the lifestyle of the new age man.
The fashion show kicked off with suave model Rajneesh Duggal setting the ramp on fire. In a very stylised presentation, 24 pieces were showcased through six demi-gods. The first collection comprised cream linen blazers flaunting large motifs, angelic and gothic screen prints and block prints. Jackets and colourful mufflers were interestingly teamed with leather pants! Models were seen sporting bags and even trendy pouches over jackets.
The second sequence saw another line of jackets, long coats, shirts to sherwanis and kurtas. The accessories drew attention here with colourful beret caps, funky mufflers, belts and more.
What followed was a complete black on black collection. Smart and sexy, the black look saw a great assortment of jackets and waistcoats. Jackets with hoods, long coats in velvet with self-design, emperor motifs, and suede — the different fabrics gave a new look to every piece. Jackets flaunted bright checks, stripes in earthy colours with a hint of bling.
The fourth collection was indicative of the party time for demi-gods. Comprising of smart kurtas, short jackets, caps, voluminous drawstrings and aligarhi pyjamas, the collection came in a burst of colours like yellows, blues, oranges, greens, reds and pastel shades. Models teamed up kurta-pyjamas with funky coats and jackets. Tweed jackets with colourful inners were displayed over jeans.
Said Vikram, “I’ve always done women’s wear but this time I took it up as a challenge. Men are ready to look stylish. I have experimented with texture and colour. I have teamed up sherwanis with leather pants purely for shock effect. The collection is completely wearable as each piece can be separated from the stylised look.
However, I was surprised to know that people have actually liked it that way in other cities. This is how men will look in the near future.”
Bangalore was a part of Vikram’s fashion tour. But on the occasion he promised to open a stand-alone store here in the next 12 months. Seems like Bangalore will be flooded with fashion in time to come.
