Yuva sangeet utsav
DHNS

The 21st Devnandan Ubhayaker Sangeet Utsav will be held on August 11 and 12 at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. Entrance is free to all music lovers on both days.

The guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) has played an integral role in the continuity of our cultural tradition of music and dance.

This Utsav begun 21 years ago acknowledges this great tradition and presents talented youngsters, disciples of famous gurus.

On August 11 at 6 pm Surmani Bheemanna Jadav, disciple of Chidanand Sidram Jadav performs on a rare musical instrument called “Sundari.” This performance will be followed by a vocal recital by Sonali Sinha Biswas, a disciple of Rajan and Sajan Mishra of the Banaras Gharana.

Two young artistes from Karnataka will perform on August 12 at 10 am. Young Sundarnath, disciple of Ustad Bale Khan of Gwalior Gharana will begin with a sitar recital, followed by a vocal recital by Samarth Nagarkar. Samarth first trained under Aditi Upadhyay and her father Pandit Dinkar Kaikini. He is now under the guidance of Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar at the Sangeet Research Academy, where shisyas and gurus live on the premises.

On August 12 at 6 pm, Gayatri Vairagkar Joshi, a disciple of Arati Ankalikar Tikekar of the Agra-Jaipur Gharana begins with a vocal recital. Kumar Mardur will conclude the festival with his vocal recital.

The festival has seen the disciples of famous gurus like Ravi Shankar, Pandit Jasraj and Dagar Brothers among others. Young musicians who were given a platform to perform are now famous performing artistes - Rashid Khan, Gundecha Brothers, Koushiki Chakravarthi, Pravin Godkhindi to name a few.
