The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday decided to “vigorously raise” in Parliament the installing of what is described as “minority illegitimate government” of Digamber Kamath in Goa.
The NDA which deliberated on the current political issues including Goa, vice-presidential poll, the flood situation in the country and the subjects to be raised in the coming session of Parliament, demanded that “the minority illegitimate government” headed by Mr Digamber Kamath be dismissed forthwith and Manohar Parikkar be given the opportunity to form the government.
It denounced as “highly unconstitutional, unethical and patently partisan” way in which attempts were being made to save the Congress government in Goa.
In a resolution, the NDA said the Goa Democratic Alliance headed by former chief minister Parikkar had “a clear majority” in the Vidhan Sabha. “In view of the public outcry, the Governor of Goa directed that on July 30 before transacting any business the Goa Vidhan Sabha must take up the motion of confidence in the ministry headed by Mr Kamath,” it said.
The resolution said “most blatant subversion of Constitutional propriety” was, however, carried out by the Speaker on July 31. It accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi and prime minister for providing patronage to “the unconstitutional” ways in Goa.
“The NDA would raise this gross case of constitutional impropriety on the floor of Parliament very vigorously in the coming session,” the resolution said in the meeting which was presided by the Leader of opposition L K Advani.
Shiv Sena was one of the key allies who attended the NDA meeting. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said the meeting was briefed about the NDA vice-presidential candidate Najma Heptullah and her “high credentials” for the top job.
It is expected that unlike in the presidential poll, Shiv Sena would vote for the NDA candidate in the vice-presidential poll.
Sena’s presence in the meet has, for the first time, pointed to a softening of strained ties between the BJP and Shiv Sena.
